Our Practice has 2 registered dental hygienists. They have a vital role in the practice in the treatment of gum disease and in teaching methods of preventing dental diseases with toothbrushing instruction, interdental cleaning with interdental brushes and/or dental floss, and the use of Fluoride and antiplaque mouth rinses.
Any patient diagnosed with Gum disease is referred immediately to one of our hygienists. An initial screen is carried out to determine the level of disease. This baseline screen is used at the end of the treatment to monitor how successful the treatment has been. The teeth are then thoroughly descaled (usually under local anaesthesia) and advice regarding home maintenance given.
Patients who have had a course of treatment on their gums are closely monitored upon completion to ensure adequate maintenance. Typically patients with a history of gum disease will be reviewed initially every 3 months.
